Okay. So I may or may not have just killed off one of my characters, but it’s for the story. Let me explain.

Minnie was going to the Organization Sector to get her ROT papers. Remember those? You need them to cross the Wall - Apets sometimes wait 2 Orbits to get theirs. I said that Mainlanders just had to go to their O.O (Officials Office) but you can also go to the Organization Sector. Why did Minnie go to the Organization Sector? Storytelling purposes, that’s why. We can’t just kill off a main character in the middle of nowhere - we have to do it in a location that makes sense to the story, like the sight of a recent explosive protest.

As Minnie was entering the Organization Sector, she didn't notice that there’s no one there. Instead there are Capetol news clippings all over the place. When she picks one up to read, the toxic and mind-controlling ink seeps into her veins. But that’s not what kills her - it just leaves a black stain on her fingers and wrist and about halfway up her forearm. It looks kinda badass but no Mainlander would ever speak to her again - she is going through the process of being manipulated into a Rebel, someone who’s against the system and treatment of Mainlanders and Apets and this whole world in general. Why are they in my perfectly crafted story? Storytelling purposes. You should be getting used to that answer.

I keep getting sidetracked. She picks up the paper and gets poisoned by the ink. The Apet slaves that work the gates to all of the different sectors (yes, there are slaves here) then go and slice her neck and kill her. Her blood is gold, and as she bleeds out, she basically dissolves into her blood and turns into a big golden puddle amidst the newspaper-covered street. Pretty cool image, if you think about it.

They didn’t kill her for any particular reason - she’s not an imminent threat to them. They killed her because she was there, and they wanted to, and if given a chance to kill a member of your oppressing party (whether they choose to be part of said party is irrelevant) wouldn’t you take it? I can’t imagine this is just a fantastical imaginary world thing.
