March 7, 2023 - March Playlist
So I love kpop, something I believe is detailed in the Introduction post to this blog. And I know quite a few songs within the genre of kpop, AND I particularly enjoy grouping things and organizing and creating based off a theme (who would have thought?) . So I have created a small playlist of kpop songs for this month, and I decided to make it a small filler post while I work on another world-building project (this one is about money and I keep confusing myself in an attempt to not confuse you all) .
Apparently white lilacs symbolize purity and innocence and magenta/purple ones symbolize (first) love, so the translations of these songs were kept in mind. Also these songs are a bit more spring/summer songs and I’m fully aware that it’s March but that’s alright - there have been a few warm days lately.
The first song on my March playlist is LILAC by IU. Obviously. IU is a soloist and I don’t know a lot about her but this song is a great song - her voice is so soothing and breathy and nice. My favorite part of the song is probably right before the chorus, the “love me only ‘till this spring” or the note she holds right before the small drop in the chorus.
The second song on this playlist is Violeta by Iz*One. Iz*One was a temporary group that was created by a survival show (a very popular thing in kpop) and they disbanded in late April of 2021. This song is a bit less iconic to me, but I really like the chorus so onto the list it goes.
The third song is Our Summer by Tomorrow X Together, or TXT. TXT is one of my favorite groups, and this song is from their debut album way back in March of 2019. It was their debut anniversary on the 4th, actually. I really love this song - it’s a summer song (obviously), but the whole song is just so cute and fun. There’s not a proper music video but they do have a selfie-camera film reel for it. This song doesn’t completely fit with the lilac theme, I just really wanted to include it :D
The fourth song is Fairy of Shampoo by TXT. Bear with the odd name and acapella intro - the chorus/post chorus makes up for all of it. The trumpet/saxophone/whatever in that part literally makes me ascend to a higher plane. There’s no music video for this either, but I believe the performance I linked is sung at least partially live.
The fifth song here is strawberry moon by IU. We’re back to IU, mainly because the vocals in this song are to die for and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. Continuing on.
The sixth song is Ready to Love by Seventeen. This song has such a hold on me it’s not even funny. This was released five years after Pretty U, so I think it sounds pretty different, but it’s still a great song and definitely works with the innocence/purity thing for lilacs. Also, the music video thumbnail has flowers, so that’s another thing going for this song.
The last song is Ah puh by IU. Yes, again. Gotta be consistent. I really don’t know much about her, I just know a few of her songs and they happen to work perfectly with this playlist/vibe. I don’t really understand this song (I think it’s something about surfing? idek) but it’s cute and her voice could make even the duck song sound ✨magical✨. This song doesn’t have a music video so I just linked the official YouTube music sound or whatever.
So that’s all I have. Not much of a playlist given that it’s only seven songs, but seven great songs is better than a zillion mediocre ones. I think LILAC, Our Summer, and Fairy of Shampoo are what I was mainly going for here. Thank you for (hopefully) reading my ramblings about various nice-sounding songs in a language I don’t understand.
