January 1, 2023 - Time

Happy New Year, everyone. As my New Years Resolution, I am going to, as a shorthand, refer to Wanderland Univerze as WU now because it’s just so much easier and typing out Wanderland Univerze in every post and draft and in all my notes is so exhausting. WU is said out loud as three u because W = double u/two u (not a Given-Taken reference, what?) -> + u = three u. WU = three u out loud.

For general, widespread, official purposes, today’s date is January 1, 2023. What does 2023 mean, though?

Widespread Earth time is rooted in religion (BC and AD, before Christ and anno Domini -> religious), which means belief and “gods” and things that are quite controversial, and Wanderland Univerze- WU is #Perfect™ so we can’t have controversial things here because that might cause problems. Plus, religion is often used to explain the “unexplainable”, like the afterlife or the creation of the universe or if there is some/multiple overseeing power(s) in the world that watch over everything, but in WU, that’s all accounted for (TBE, grief, The Goddess). So there’s no real need for religion here, and the WU time system can’t really be rooted in things of this Earthly plane, because WU is 94% not Earth (TBE).

What is the WU time system, you may ask? Well. I’m glad you asked, because that is the point of this post. It’s a little complicated, but here are the basics.

Note: You may wonder what the point of me telling you this is. Honestly, there’s no point. I just want to All you absolutely need to know is that 1 Astro, the social equivalent to years, is 200 days. If you don’t care about the specifics, then that’s all you need to know. If you do care, then read on, my friend. Also, thank you.

1 Astro is the social equivalent of 1 year. On Earth, people age in years. In WU, people age in Astros. 1 Astro is made up of 200 Suns, and Suns are conveniently perfectly equal with days, so 1 Sun is conveniently perfectly  with 1 day. So 1 Astro = 200 Suns = 200 days.

These 200 Suns are split up into Orbits, which are similar to months. There are 10 Orbits in an Astro. All the Orbits are equal, so each one has 20 Suns in it. The Orbits aren’t named, just numbered 1 through 10. So 1 Astro = 10 Orbits, and 1 Orbit = 20 Suns.

On Earth, days are split into 24 chunks called hours. In WU, Suns are split into 16 chunks called Lights. 1 Light is 1 and a half hours. So 1 Sun = 1 day = 16 Lights, and 1 Light = 1.5 hours.

There’s only one measurement smaller than a Light - something similar to a minute, called Rays. There are 100 Rays in a Light because a Light is 150% of an hour and I needed a unit that was smaller. So 1 Light = 100 Rays = 90 minutes, and 1 Ray = 0.9 minutes = 54 seconds.

If this is confusing, that’s okay. I don’t understand it. I just wrote it down. Here’s a table, if you want:

Okay. Now. Everyone, please get up and go get a glass of water or something, because we’re not done.

There’s only one thing left, the calendar. Orbits don’t have names, they’re just numbers. On Earth, we associate different months with temperatures and times of the year. That happens in WU too. Here are the seasons.

There are 5 seasons, called Leaves. 1 Leaf is made up of 2 Orbits (40 Suns/days total) , so every Leaf is equal and ⅕ of an Astro. On Earth, we name our seasons winter, spring, summer, and fall. In WU, They name their Leaves Whisper, Flutter, Bloom, Rise, and Sway. Very aesthetic, I know (I wanted it to sound pretty!).

The first Leaf, Whisper, is during Orbits 1 and 2. It’s the coldest time of the year, with temperatures at a terrifying 30℉! Okay, not too bad, I know. Just cold enough to make ice skating fun and make that cup of hot chocolate that much more worth it.

The second Leaf, Flutter, is during Orbits 3 and 4. The temperature gets a little indecisive, from about 45 to 60℉.

The third Leaf, Bloom, is during Orbits 5 and 6. It’s similar to  springtime, around 65 to 75℉. It’s similar to the fifth Leaf, which is two descriptions away…

The fourth Leaf, Rise, is during Orbits 7 and 8. Rise is the hottest time of the year, getting as hot as 95℉, and as low as 80℉.

The fifth Leaf, Sway, is during Orbits 9 and 10. Sway is similar to Bloom (as mentioned above), and the temperatures are about the same, but Sway is a little colder, 60 to 70℉.

So. That’s it. A lot of information, I know. I don’t have much to say now, so… The intro post for this month will be tomorrow.
